February Update

(February 7, 2022) So proud of this team just back from building our first earthquake and tropical storm resistant house. We are so thankful to finally be at this point after a surge of Covid and lack of fuel prevented the team from traveling to our satellite village high in the mountains. Tonight a family finally has a safe home to raise their children and can sleep free from worry of an earthquake striking during the night.

We hope to build 5 more houses this year! Our original target was to do 10, but after actually building one we needed to reassess. Costs are so high on everything right now and we do not want to cut corners and want to pay a fair wage. Our goal is to provide safe & sustainable homes that will last a lifetime. Of course if we find we can build more, we will! If you would like to join us in making that possible Click here to donate today, or send a check made out to Hope for Health to P.O. SEPTEMBER Update

web2021-2.gif

(September 15, 2021) We are so thankful for the safety of the team on Monday, September 6, as they bought supplies in the local market & traveled all day through difficult terrain to a remote mountain community completely devastated by the earthquake and flooding from tropical storm Grace for another food distribution.

Renald, partnered with local leaders and pastors, and together they organized & coordinated the distribution on Tuesday, September 7. They distributed 70 large food packages (rice, spaghetti, oil, and beans) to those living high up in the mountains (2 hour walk) and 60 pkgs to those we were not able to serve during our last distribution at the base of the Mountain. We were also so thankful that we could distribute 60 Woman’s Hygiene kits (Days for girls) that we had on hand. A nurse from the community ran a short training for the women receiving a kit. Our prayer is that each woman who received a kit and each family that received food would feel respected, renewed with hope, and wrapped in the love of Christ.

Thank you to everyone who gave to make this work possible, we could never do it without you! We realize there are needs in every direction and many people that need help. We take the responsibility of your choice to trust our ministry with your donation very seriously.

This will likely be our last food distribution, as shelter has become the #1 identified need. We will be changing our focus toward providing shelter to families during this rainy season and working with our team and local leaders to brainstorm the best way to address that need. This seems like an impossible task and we certainly will not be able to help everyone, or even very many, but we will continue to use 100% of all donations that come in for Earthquake Response to help as many families as we can.

If you would like to make a donation toward shelter for those who lost homes in Haiti, Click here to donate today or send a check made out to Hope for Health PO Box 485, Harleysville PA 19438.

Hope for Health responds to august earthquake

(August 25, 2021) In response to the earthquake that hit Haiti on Saturday August 14 many have been asking how they can give toward the relief efforts and be assured that their donations will be used for what it was intended. Hope for Health will be receiving donations to provide an opportunity for persons to give through our organization and be assured that their donations will go quickly & directly to Haiti to be used for the earthquake response. Hope for Health will be working in one of our satellite villages high in the mountains near the epicenter of the quake that was totally devastated. They are unable to be reached at this moment, because of the severe damage to the roads from the earthquake and the flooding of the river and mudslides due to tropical storm “Grace” By this weekend we hope to be able to get food, water, medical supplies & possibly a few tents to set up a food distribution center and medical center up the mountain to the village.

Any funds not needed by our organization for earthquake response will be dispersed to several organizations who work in the affected communities every day and were able to respond immediately and who will continue to respond and will be there in the future. These are organizations that we know personally or have worked with in the past and know to be organizations of integrity. Mary, our executive director is in constant communication with friends in Haiti and colleagues working in the effected areas and we will respond to any needs we are able to help with. Your donations will enable us to immediately respond to a situation that comes to our attention. 100% of what is given for earthquake response will be used for earthquake relief.

Renald, our In-country director, along with a Hope for Health team of eight menfrom the community purchased rice, spaghetti, water, canned fish, and oil in the local market. (Buying local in Haiti is SO important! ) They packed all the supplies into 2 vehicles and a trailer and headed to a village devastated by the earthquake to meet up with Local leaders & pastors. That evening they made up emergency food packets to distribute the following day and then slept outside on the ground as there are no buildings left standing that are safe to be in. 90% of the buildings in this village were destroyed and the ones left standing are not safe to be in. On Tuesday, thanks to everyones generous donations and the hard work of the team they were able to give out food relief to 200 families. After a long day of distribution they drove several hours back home. We are so grateful for Renald and Kenzy (who builds the solar dryers & helps in so many ways) and the team for all their hard work! #Haitianshelpinghaitians

Renald also cleaned out our Hope for Health storage up and was able to take several huge boxes of first aid supplies with them, which we divided in half. He delivered half to a hospital since they were running out of supplies and the other half were given to a group of Haitian doctors working in another village just a few days after the earthquake.

THANK YOU!!! Without your generous donations this would not be possible! It takes all of us working together to do our part!
